Minerals and lithiumNerosty a lithium
Where minerals matter to an economy, where lithium comes from, and what the Ore Mountains mined over the centuries.Kde nerosty hýbou ekonomikou, odkud pochází lithium a co se v Krušných horách těžilo po staletí.
GoalsCíle
- Tell a deposit from a mineRozlišit ložisko a důl
- Explain why some economies depend on mineralsVysvětlit, proč jsou některé ekonomiky závislé na nerostech
- Connect a mining region with its historyPropojit těžební oblast s její historií

In which countries do minerals make up a large share of the economy?Ve kterých zemích tvoří nerosty velkou část ekonomiky?
For the teacherPro učitele: Let students read the darkest countries. Discuss what happens to such a country when world prices fall.Nechte žáky přečíst nejtmavší země. Proberte, co se s takovou zemí stane, když světové ceny klesnou.

Why is lithium found in salt flats? What does extraction there need that is scarce?Proč se lithium nachází v solných pláních? Čeho je při těžbě potřeba a tam toho je málo?
For the teacherPro učitele: In the salt flats lithium is dissolved in salty groundwater that is pumped into ponds and left to evaporate. The Atacama is one of the driest places on Earth, so water use is the big question. The dots show deposits of all kinds, not only lithium.V solných pláních je lithium rozpuštěné ve slané podzemní vodě, která se čerpá do nádrží a nechá se odpařit. Atacama patří k nejsušším místům na Zemi, takže hlavní otázkou je spotřeba vody. Tečky ukazují ložiska všeho druhu, ne jen lithia.

Compare the USGS deposits with the mines on OpenStreetMap. Does every deposit have a mine?Porovnejte ložiska podle USGS s doly v OpenStreetMap. Má každé ložisko důl?
For the teacherPro učitele: No: a deposit is where a mineral is known to be, a mine is where it is taken out. Australia is the largest lithium producer, mostly from hard rock rather than salt flats.Ne: ložisko je místo, kde nerost je, důl je místo, kde se těží. Austrálie je největším producentem lithia, převážně z hornin, ne ze solných plání.

The mountains are named after ore. What was mined here in the past? Is there lithium?Hory nesou jméno po rudě. Co se tu v minulosti těžilo? Je tu lithium?
For the teacherPro učitele: Silver, tin and later uranium. Silver coins struck in Jáchymov, called thalers, gave the word dollar its name. At Cínovec lies one of the largest known lithium deposits in Europe.Stříbro, cín a později uran. Ze stříbrných tolarů ražených v Jáchymově pochází slovo dolar. U Cínovce leží jedno z největších známých ložisek lithia v Evropě.
